For users who have been using Desktop Uploader, they can update it directly to Google Backup and Sync. For those new users, they need to download Backup and Sync App first.
Step 1. Install it on your desktop.
Step 2. Sign in your Google account that you have been using for Google Photos.
Step 3. Choose 'Back up photos and videos', or 'Back up all file types'and click 'Next' button.
Step 4. Specify which folders you would like to back up to Google Photos and Google Drive. You can also backup photos/videos to Google Photos and Google Drive either by selecting high quality or by original quality option.
Notes:
- If you select 'High quality' option, photos will be compressed to save space. If a photo is larger than 16MP
, it will be resized to 16MP. - If you select 'Original quality' option, it will use the storage space of your Google account. All photos and videos are stored in the same resolution that you took them.
Step 5. Click 'Start' and wait for the process to complete. It may take minutes to hours to complete depending on number of photos you are uploading.
Notes:
- If you delete a photo or video through your computer, it won't be deleted in Google Photos.
- If you delete a photo or video from Google Photos, it remains on your Google Drive and your computer.

How to Download Google Photos to PC?

Since you have installed Backup and Sync app on your PC, you may find it can help you download photos from your Google Drive to local computer.
